Just friends?

Lately I've been thinking about the whole Just friends concept. "No, gaad no! We're not together. We're just friends," I know almost every girl on this planet has to say this at least once. It's like there's nothing called a girl-boy friendship. Unless one of the parts is gay, it's like forbidden or something.

Think about it. Is it any of your friends (that is a boy/oposite sex)whom you've fancied? Or maybe oposite: they've liked you? Seems as though one can't have a mutual friendship with a guy. You might like him, while he just wants to be friends. What if we have to think like this about every friend? Assuming he/she fancies you, how can we have a proper friendship with a guy then? Remember the old-days when we didn't need to think like this, when friends were friends.

But is it true? Is it impossible that a girl and a boy can have a friendship? Can we have a mutual friendship, and friendship only, with the oposite sex? Or is just friends a lie, to ourselves and others?
